Sumit Singhania

Sumit Singhania Sumit is Partner in the Direct Tax practice in Gurugram.
With a specialisation in Corporate & International tax, Sumit has more than 12 years of experience in advising multinationals and Indian businesses on a wide range of matters including Double Taxation Avoidance Agreements, Transaction Tax, Exchange control, and tax policy advocacy endeavors.
Given his domain knowledge in Energy & Infrastructure sector, he has extensively worked with clients in Upstream and LNG space; Power; Renewables; Defence and Aerospace; Ports sector, on India investment structuring, tax strategy for supply chain, exit planning, cash repatriation strategy, contract structuring, tax risk assessment and tax litigation strategy. Sumit has also advised clients in retail, pharmaceutical and manufacturing industries
He plays an important role in BMR’s France Country Programme initiatives, and actively contributes to tax policy related franchise building endeavours of the firm. Amongst key policy related engagements, Sumit represents the firm as the Knowledge Partner at European Business Group’s committees for Energy & Power sectors.
He is a regular speaker at conferences organized by industry bodies in and outside India and has authored /co-authored articles in several publications (published by Bloomberg BNA, CCH, IBFD, International Taxation (Taxmann), leading business dailies, International education institution, International Tax Research and Analysis Foundation (ITRAF), and IFA) and was named in International Tax Review’s 2012 World Tax Guide for significant transaction in India.
He has to his credit as co-author, a book titled ‘Alternate Dispute Resolution –Indian Perspective’, published by LexisNexis in 2016.
Sumit is a graduate in Commerce from Delhi University and is a member of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He is also an active member of International Fiscal Association (IFA).
